aEAo STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

The continuing growth of the Enterprise Architecture (EA) field and profession is resulting in the proliferation of a number of formal organizations (mostly not-for-profit) that seek some definitive authority over various aspects of EA.  Over a dozen such organizations (and subgroups) were quickly identified that have in their charters or by laws some aspects of governance for EA, as a practice or a profession, or both.  EA practitioners, involved in several of these organizations realize that an opportunity exists for seeking the greater benefit for the profession and practice.  Through communications and coordination, synergies across these organizations in the spirit of cooperation and collaboration should be established. The purpose of the aEAo is to promote this end.

What it is not is perhaps as important to the continued participation and support of the subscribing organizations as what it is.  This federation is not intended to become a formally chartered organization with its own agendas, structures or staffs.  It is not intended, beyond some form of overarching purpose inculcated within a mutually developed agreement or statement, to which all members subscribe, to be a formative or punitive body.  It is not intended to even to have permanence, other than to have the duties, which are important, routinely carried out, and perhaps, rotated and the other costs/burdens of supporting its premises shared in some fashion by its members.  These premises starting with and stemming from communications and coordination of events, activities and projects, to include research and new thought leadership collaborations, would be aimed toward seeing concomitance across the participants.

It is hoped that over time this communication and coordination will result in collaborations and cooperation that will significantly leverage the energies of the memberships across all of the participating organizations to the greater benefit of the practice and profession of EA.  Ultimately, what could result would be equitably shared governance over EA with all organizations with specific and focused EA interest participating.  This would in turn aid the achievement of significant enhancement of professional status and academic recognition for the practice of EA.
